This is NOT a blog entry. Not by any means. No, it's a procrastination technique . . . and it's working!! Yes, I should be creating a swap (or more truthfully, 4 swaps) for my meeting tomorrow. But, instead I am pretending to write. hmm. Sadly, I have nothing to write about. So, what is the best thing to do? I could insert a whole bunch of pictures! Yes, that's the ticket!
Here are a few pieces of my own art. Hope you will allow me to indulge myself
This is a fabric and paint collage I made in Traci Bautistas class at ArtFiberFest 2007.
This is an acrylic painting I created to test a technique using tar gel to outline and embellish the design
The image area measures 6" x 10". It is my interpretation of "Old Man and the Sea" and was created as part of a 3" x 5" art swap, hosted by Red Dog Scott. I don't remember when we did the swap, at least a few years ago. The theme was to build a tarot deck based on literary works. Seventy of so artists each made a piece of art which was copied onto enough 3" x 5" cards to share with each other, then sent to Red to collate and distribute. My assigned card was 7 wands, seen here as fishing poles. Notice how I deftly avoided painting the old man, by hiding him behind the fish? hehe - that was not a mistake.
Another swap, this is a mosaic of Isis. This is perhaps the most involved piece I've ever created. The "grout" has a huge amount of Pearl-Ex mixed in, and the outer board has been covered in gold leaf, giving the finished piece quite a bit of luminescence.
Obviously, I was inspired by others. Actually, this is an attempt to cover an old canvas. I needed something outrageously bright to hang above my kitchen sink, and this idea came to mind. I had an ugly painting, (one of my own) so used the old canvas. Some of the old colors peep through in spots, but I think that adds to the charm of the composition. All pretension aside, I am laughing at myself here. Anyone who creates something like this to hang above her sink must have a healthy sense of her own ridiculousness.
I tried to delete this picture, since it is of an unfinished work, but I don't know how to delete the image without deleting everything. Any way, this was created as a Christmas gift and is still not complete.
That is it for now. I need to get busy, for real, this time.
great stuff-what a mosaic piece too!
