So, I've had a few questions about the challenge.
I guess a little more clarification is required.
It's 1 foot x 1 foot x 1 color, in all it's tints and shades. So,
if you choose pink, it could be baby pink and shocking pink and
Pepto-Bismol pink. The real rules are the size, the color limitation
and the date. (Now officially August 2 2010).
The Rules are all in place to make the whole thing go fast. Too many
options creates chaos, a few rules gives structure. Please join in!
The inspiration came primarily from a piece Carol and I saw at the
Houston Quilt show. I don't remember which year, but we saw a dress
shape, totally covered with STUFF (and I capitalized that on purpose),
all in one color. The stuff included small plastic toys, buttons,
beads, ribbons, fibers, fabric, game pieces, appliques, silk flowers, frogs, etc. Just
anything that could be caught and attached. It grabbed our attention in a big way. From a distance, the piece was not that fascinating, but the closer we got, the more detail could be seen. Standing 2 feet from this incredible piece, I couldn't pull myself away from it. It has been on my mind since to do my own, using the same concept.
We said at the time, those words famous to all of us, "We could do
that", later to be amended to "We could do that, only smaller." Thus
was born the 1' x 1' idea. We have talked about it for over a year.
Then in October, 2009, I mentioned it to others, who then wanted to jump
on board. Every time I ask someone how their 1 x 1 is coming, I get
the same answer - I need a little more time (meaning that they hadn't
started yet.) So, I decided to make it official and give it a deadline,
and a prize to one lucky participant. With 8+ weeks to finish, it
shouldn't interfere too much with holiday and vacation plans. It is
over well before people start their Christmas
crafting, right during the middle of the year when we need something to
egg us on.

"April the Instigator" cracks me up! I finished mine, but am not pleased with it. Can't decide if I can tweak until I'm happy or if I need to start again.
